Hallux valgus is corrected either by an osteotomy of the first metatarsal (chevron, scarf or minimally invasive chevron), often combined with an Akin osteotomy of the proximal phalanx, or by fusing the first tarsometatarsal joint (Lapidus). The choice depends on the severity of the deformity and on instability at the first TMT joint.
