The Temporary Silicone Tendon Replacement, also known as a tendon rod or tendon spacer, is a silicone implant used in staged, passive reconstruction of the hand tendons. Placed at the first stage, it replicates the natural tendon and allows a pseudosynovial sheath to form, which is intended to nourish and lubricate the autogenous tendon graft placed at the second stage.
Features
- Monolithic moulded body with an oval cross-section and elongated shape.
- Four cross-sections: 3 × 1.5 mm, 4 × 2 mm, 5 × 2.5 mm and 6 × 3 mm.
- Three lengths: 120, 180 and 220 mm.
- Implant-grade silicone (NuSil MED 4550) with a smooth, uncoated surface.
- Passive implant: not intended for suture to the proximal flexor stump.
- Supplied sterile (ethylene oxide), for single use; do not resterilise.
- No special instrument set is needed.
Indications
Stage one of staged (two-stage), passive reconstruction of flexor or extensor tendons of the hand, before autogenous tendon grafting.
Contraindications
- Infectious disease or local infection.
- Serious neuromuscular or venous disease.
- Insufficient quality of bone or skin structures.
- Allergy or hypersensitivity to silicone.
- Lack of patient cooperation.
