ApeX – Interphalangeal Fusion

ApeX is an intramedullary implant from Extremity Medical for arthrodesis of the interphalangeal joints of the hand. A post is seated in the proximal phalanx of the joint and a tapered lag screw is passed through it into the distal one; the screw locks into the post by a Morse taper and compresses across the joint at a fusion angle of 30° or 45°. The construct sits within the bone, so no plate or hardware has to be bent.

Posts come in Medium (4.0 mm) and Large (4.6 mm) diameters, 16 or 20 mm long, at 30° (blue) or 45° (green). Lag screws are 3.0 mm, 16 to 30 mm long, solid or cannulated.
